Longtime member of Friends of Arlington Parks Larry Finch, 87, passed away on Saturday September 12, 2020, in Monterey, California. He lived in Arlington, Virginia, for more than 50 years and tirelessly dedicated his time to helping preserve Arlington's remaining natural areas, maintain a healthy tree canopy, and reduce greenhouse emissions. Most notably, he led the movement to create the Donaldson Run Walkabout and chaired Arlington's Urban Forestry Commission, the Natural Resources Joint Advisory Group, and the regional Urban Forest Roundtable. He also became a Virginia Master Naturalist, served on numerous other citizen advisory groups, and was central to the work of Friends of Arlington Parks. Larry's gentle manner, quiet competence, and enduring commitment made him an especially effective advocate for trees and nature.

In memory of his work, Friends of Arlington Parks is collecting donations to the Larry Finch Memorial Parks Fund to support memorial plantings and other Arlington parks projects. Please click the (DONATE) button to contribute.
